WIST Ultimate Frisbee Team Excels at the Taichung Mayor’s Cup Championship
華盛頓中學WIST飛盤隊 114年臺中市長盃飛盤錦標賽勇奪佳績
The 2025 Taichung Mayor’s Cup Ultimate Frisbee Championship recently concluded with great success. The Washington International School of Taichung (WIST) Ultimate Frisbee Team delivered an outstanding performance across multiple events, capturing the championship title in the Senior High Boys’ Division and earning second place in the Senior High Mixed Division. In addition, team members achieved excellent results in individual and paired events, including disc golf, double disc court, and distance throw, demonstrating the students’ solid training foundation and consistent competitive strength.
Throughout the competition, WIST students displayed exceptional focus and strong on-the-spot adaptability. Even amid fast-paced transitions and high-intensity matchups, they maintained clear judgment and seamless coordination. On the field, players relied on effective real-time communication and tactical execution, supporting and encouraging one another—fully embodying the values of teamwork and sportsmanship central to ultimate frisbee. From their intense concentration during matches to the genuine sense of accomplishment evident afterward, the students’ commitment to athletic excellence and continuous improvement was clearly on display.
114年臺中市長盃飛盤錦標賽日前圓滿落幕，華盛頓中學WIST飛盤隊於多項賽事中表現亮眼，勇奪高中男子組冠軍，並榮獲高中混合組亞軍，同時在敲桿、雙人傳接及擲遠等個人與雙人項目中皆有優異成績，充分展現學生扎實的訓練成果與穩定的競技實力。
比賽過程中，華中學生展現高度專注與穩定的臨場應變能力，在快速攻防轉換與高強度對抗下，仍能維持清晰判斷與流暢配合。場上選手透過即時溝通與戰術呼應，彼此支援、相互鼓勵，充分體現飛盤運動所重視的團隊合作與運動家精神。從投入比賽的專注神情到賽後自然流露的成就感，皆展現學生對競技運動的投入程度與持續精進的態度。
In the Senior High Boys’ Division, the WIST team demonstrated a high level of tactical execution and mature team cohesion. Competing against multiple strong opponents, the students maintained a steady rhythm during offensive and defensive transitions, skillfully utilized space and cutting strategies, and successfully capitalized on scoring opportunities during critical moments, ultimately securing the championship title.
In the Senior High Mixed Division, male and female players supported one another and complemented each other’s strengths. Through effective communication and seamless collaboration, the team clearly embodied the core values of ultimate frisbee—fairness, respect, and cooperation—and earned second place, marking another impressive achievement for the team.
Coaches Wu Shih-Yu and Hsieh Wei-Fan noted that despite demanding academic responsibilities, students consistently dedicated their limited after-school time to training. Even when faced with constraints in time and facilities, they demonstrated remarkable self-discipline and a strong commitment to continuous improvement. The team’s success at this year’s Mayor’s Cup not only reflects their technical skills and teamwork, but also stands as a tangible result of long-term dedication and perseverance.
Principal Liu Yi-Hsin emphasized that ultimate frisbee is more than a competitive sport—it is a meaningful practice of character education. Through competition, students learn self-discipline, respect for opponents, and develop trust and confidence through teamwork. Looking ahead, Washington International School of Taichung (WIST) will continue to promote ultimate frisbee and the development of diverse athletic programs, enabling students to cultivate physical fitness, resilience, and a positive team spirit beyond academics, while advancing the school’s commitment to holistic education.
在高中男子組賽事中，WIST隊伍展現高度戰術執行力與成熟的團隊默契，面對多支實力堅強的隊伍，學生能在攻守轉換間保持穩定節奏，靈活運用空間與跑位策略，並於關鍵回合中成功把握得分機會，最終奪下冠軍榮耀；而在高中混合組賽事中，男女選手彼此支援、互補優勢，透過良好溝通與默契合作，具體呈現飛盤運動「公平、尊重、合作」的核心精神，最終榮獲亞軍，為團隊寫下亮眼成績。
教練吳適宇及謝偉帆表示，學生在繁重課業之餘，仍善用放學後有限時間持續投入訓練，即使面臨時間與場地限制，依然展現高度自律與精進精神。本次市長盃所獲佳績，不僅展現學生的技術實力與團隊默契，更是長期投入與努力不懈的具體成果。
華中校長劉一欣表示，飛盤運動不只是競技活動，更是一種品格教育的實踐。學生在比賽中學習自律、尊重對手，並在團隊合作中建立信任與自信。未來，華盛頓中學WIST將持續推動飛盤運動與多元體育發展，讓學生在學業之外，也能透過運動培養健康體魄、堅強意志與正向的團隊精神，落實全人教育理念。
