WIST Robotics Team Wins First Place at Robofest Taiwan National Competition

The 27th World Robotics Competition Taiwan Qualifier recently concluded with great success. The Connector, a student team from WIST, delivered an outstanding performance in the Senior Division of the Creative Science Exhibition, winning first place nationwide. The team has earned the honor of representing Taiwan at the world finals in the United States. By integrating innovative ideas with hands-on engineering, the students demonstrated strong technological literacy and problem-solving skills, earning high recognition from the judges.
The award-winning team was led by Grade 12 student Henry, with members including Grade 11 students Justin, Tim, Norman, and Eric. Their project centered on a self-developed food delivery robot named “Timmy,” designed to address real-life needs and improve campus environments through technology. Throughout the development process, the team adopted a collaborative approach, covering hardware design, circuit planning, programming, and system integration to build a fully functional robotic system. Their advisor, Natisha Davis, provided professional guidance throughout key technical and design stages, helping transform their ideas into tangible outcomes.
Throughout an extended process of design and testing, the team overcame numerous technical challenges through continuous discussion, iteration, and refinement. The students shared that staying calm under pressure and effectively integrating different perspectives through communication were key to improving their project. Team leader Henry noted that the competition emphasizes identifying real-world problems and developing solutions. By creating the delivery robot, the team aimed to enhance everyday environments through engineering while gaining a deeper understanding of the human-centered nature of engineering design.

Looking ahead, the team will represent Taiwan at the world finals in the United States and continue refining their project. Plans include integrating AI-powered image recognition and higher-precision positioning technologies to further enhance the robot’s intelligence and performance. The team also hopes to share their development experience to promote STEAM education and inspire more students to engage in technological innovation and engineering practice.
Principal Liu Yi-Hsin stated that the students’ success in a national robotics competition highlights their innovative thinking and engineering capabilities, as well as the effectiveness of the school’s long-term commitment to STEAM education. WIST encourages students to approach real-world problems by integrating theory with practice and developing interdisciplinary skills. The school will continue to provide diverse learning resources to support students in expanding their horizons on the international stage.
