For me, the best thing about teaching STEAM education is that I get to inspire, excite, and amaze students with engineering concepts and advanced technology; and then get to be inspired, excited and amazed by them when they use the lessons I have taught to come up with ideas I could never have imagined.
Social Studies at WIST is not just about the study of history, but a multidisciplinary exploration to understand where we have come from, where we are going, and what progress looks like on a journey to better understand humanity.
Language Arts is a foundation for communicating ideas, feelings, and interpreting the world around us. Academically, it provides a practical basis in which all disciplines may converge, connect people through shared experiences and provide an outlet for creativity, identity, and exploration. We study English in search of ourselves, and to discover our place in the world.
The main goal of Science at Washington is for students to work constructively toward understanding the world around them. We do so with a variety of tools that includes hands-on laboratory experiments, lectures, activities such as instructional videos, field trips and projects. Courses offered at Washington include Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, as well as AP courses for the most advanced learners.
In the department of business and economics at WIST, we have everything you would expect: from microeconomics to macroeconomics, from entrepreneurship to international business, from human resource management to organizational behavior, from marketing to accounting, and more! Come to us for a foot in the door to the world of business.
Language Arts is not just about learning English, it's about understanding the ways language can and has been used--to record history, to transmit culture, to tell a story, to argue a point, to describe beauty, to inspire and many other ways. In Language Arts classes, students learn to recognize and appreciate how language is used, and also how to use it themselves in ways that are both practical and artistic.
At Washington International School in Taichung, we provide a range of courses that support the effective learning of mathematics. The goal of these courses is to equip our students with a conceptual understanding of mathematics, as well as the computational and problem-solving skills needed to prepare for their post-secondary education and careers.
Our courses range from Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1 and Geometry in middle school, to more advanced courses like Precalculus, AP Calculus and AP Statistics in high school. Different math courses at each grade level allow for a broad range of placement options, based on students’ individual needs and previous learning experiences. In our accelerated math track students start with Algebra 1 in Grade 7 and progress to AP Calculus in Grade 11. For students who want to explore Math beyond the classroom we invite them to participate in Math contests from around the world.
Through our courses, we encourage and enable students to recognize that mathematics permeates the world around us, and to appreciate the power, usefulness, and beauty of mathematics.
