Washington International School (WIST) proudly celebrates outstanding news as student Gladys won the National Championship at the 14th English for Specific Purposes (ESP) Vocabulary and Listening-Dictation-Speaking Competition. Competing against 511 contestants from 408 schools nationwide, Yeh distinguished herself with exceptional language proficiency and confident performance. This remarkable achievement not only brings honor to the school but also reflects WIST’s continued commitment to international education and multilingual development.
華盛頓中學WIST傳來捷報，學生Gladys於「第十四屆專業英日文詞彙（ESP）與聽寫說能力大賽」中榮獲全國冠軍，從全國 408 所學校、511 位參賽選手中脫穎而出，展現卓越的語言實力與穩健的臨場表現。此項榮耀不僅為校爭光，也再次印證學校深耕國際教育與多語能力培養的具體成果。
The ESP English and Japanese Vocabulary and Listening-Dictation-Speaking Competition is one of Taiwan’s most recognized professional language contests. The competition emphasizes the practical application of language skills in real-world contexts, aligning closely with the goals of international education that prioritize communication competence and cross-cultural expression. Contest components include professional vocabulary usage, listening comprehension, dictation, and spoken expression, requiring both linguistic accuracy and quick response skills, thereby comprehensively evaluating students’ integrated language abilities.
「專業英日文詞彙（ESP）與聽寫說能力大賽」為國內具指標性的專業語言競賽之一，強調語言在真實情境中的實務應用能力，與國際教育所重視的溝通素養與跨文化表達能力高度契合。競賽內容涵蓋專業英日文詞彙運用、聽力理解、聽寫測驗與口語表達等面向，著重語言精準度與即時反應能力，全面考驗學生的語言整合實力。
Gladys shared that language proficiency is not achieved overnight but is built through consistent effort over time. She enjoys reading English novels and listening to English songs in her daily life, naturally developing her sense of language and comprehension through personal interests. In preparation for the competition, she engaged in intensive practice and mock tests, repeatedly familiarizing herself with professional vocabulary and the listening-dictation-speaking format. This process helped her enhance both accuracy and confidence during the competition. She emphasized that continuous practice and self-reflection are key factors in achieving stable performance.
Gladys表示，語言能力的養成並非一蹴可幾，而是來自長期且穩定的累積。她平時熱愛閱讀英文小說與聆聽英文歌曲，透過興趣自然培養語感與理解能力，使英語學習融入日常生活，逐步內化為扎實基礎。為迎接本次競賽，她於考前進行密集練習與模擬測驗，反覆熟悉專業詞彙運用與聽寫說題型，藉此提升答題精準度與臨場應變能力。她也分享，持續練習與自我檢視，是穩定發揮的重要關鍵。
